I began reading YA fiction when I was in fifth grade, and I’ve never turned back. YA fiction has played such a pivotal role in leading me to this career choice that it’s only natural that I’d want to represent it! If you think I’d be a great fit for your manuscript, but it doesn’t quite fit what I’ve listed here, feel free to send it to me anyways!
Fantasy: You really can’t go wrong with sending me fantasy. Of all the books I read, vast majority are fantasy. If for some reason I was only allowed to read fantasy for the rest of my life, I would be perfectly okay with that! Similar to to what I’m looking for in MG fantasy, gorgeous world building and stunning prose go a long way with me. I want to feel heartbroken if I have to stop reading your manuscript! Suck me into this world you’ve created and take me on an unbelievable ride that I won’t ever forget! I’ve read a lot of YA fantasy over the years. Surprise me with something I’ve never seen before or put a unique twist on a classic trope. I’m particularly interested at the moment in manuscripts with a strong voice and some humor. Send me the manuscripts with a lighthearted exterior and a dark underbelly. I love manuscripts that deal with sad or difficult situations but mix in some humor and whimsy and ultimately end on a slightly hopeful note. This doesn’t mean I’m not interested in dark fantasies though! I love my darkness when it’s done right! If there are dragons or demons, you get bonus points.
Science Fiction: I’m always on the look out for a good YA science fiction novel! Ever since The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Maze Runner by James Dashner, I’ve been keeping my eyes out for something to fill the void! I’d also love to see more space adventures! Send me the stories that take place on different planets with different creatures and customs! Think something along the lines of the movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets in regards to creativity. I am also completely on board with anything even remotely similar to Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan.
Horror: Creepy and fantastical is right up my alley. I love my YA supernatural horror. Send me the ghosts, ghouls, and demons! I’ll accept all creepy creatures!
Historical: What I’m looking for in historical fiction is something steeped in magic or full of action and adventure. Heck, give me a historical with elements of mysteries or thrillers! Send me a variety!
Contemporary Romance: I will admit that I’m a bit particular with contemporary realistic fiction. For that reason, I mostly stay on the romance side of things. Geekerella by Ashley Poston and When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon are two novels that I just love to pieces! YA rom coms are also something I’ve been keeping an eye out for!
